REVIEW: Olympus DS-2600 & AS-2400 Complete Starter Kit
We've finally managed to get our hands on the Olympus DS-2600 and AS-2400 starter kit. We've put it to the test inside our Voice Technology center - and our first thoughts: The ideal kit for entry-level dictation.
Whats in the box?
As a complete starter kit, Olympus have provided all of the components and accessories to get you up-and-running from the get go:- DS-2600 Digital Voice Recorder

That pretty much covers what we would expect from a complete starter kit; we clearly have everything we need for the author to start recording their voice notes and the typist to start transcribing documents right away with minimal fuss.
The Setup
This kit really is a stress-free solution - the DSS Player Software is easy to install and works with both Mac and Windows operating systems. The intuitive user interface allows for simple and efficient dictation workflow management so it easy to view your voice files and organise your workflow. The DS-2600 is easy to set up of out the box, also offering user-friendly controls and the AS-2400 allows for "plug-and-play" usability out of the box. All in all this kit continues to deliver on ease-of-use.
Operation
Recording voice files was simple and straightforward: the professional slide switch control allows for intuitive operation and offers users the traditional and time-tested record/edit operation. File transfer to the PC was quick and easy via the supplied Micro USB Cable and our dictation was labelled clearly in DSS Player. The RS-28H foot controls were incredibly responsive, with the E-102 Stereo Headset providing us with crisp and clear audio for accurate transcription.Summary
The DS-2600 and AS-2400 Starter Kit gets the Speak-IT Seal of Approval. Recommended for users looking to make the switch to digital dictation and looking for an entry level option that offers some professional functionality on a budget. 5/5
